Structure

The AutoSPCUInstaller consists of 3 files:

  1. AutoSPCUInstaller.ps1 : This is the main PowerShell file. Here the installation process is defined. Just call this file to start the update process.
  2. AutoSPCUInstaller_Conf.xml : This file is used for input about the environment. In this early release you only nee to add the build number of the Cumulative Update you want to install. This number is just used to check if you need to install the update.
  3. AutoSPCUInstaller_Func.ps1: Contains all the magic functions to start and stop services and to start the installation.

How do I install the update with AutoSPInstaller ?

There are to ways:

  1. Local Installation: The Cumulative Update file is within the same folder as the scripts. By a local installation the script searches for an exe file within the current folder and starts it.

  2. Remote Installation: The Cumulative Update file is somewhere on a shared folder or on a network folder. In this case you have to tell the program where to find the installation file. To do that just edit the AutoSPCUInstaller_Config.xml and place the full path between the UpdateFilePath tag:
    <UpdateFilePath>\\jupiter\Cumulative Update\ubersrv2013-kbxxxxx-fullfile-x64-glb.exe</UpdateFilePath>

Local Installation

  1. Login to your SharePoint Server as Farm Account.
  2. First of all create an empty folder somewhere on your SharePoint Server you want to update.

  3. Download the AutoSPInstaller_vXX.zip and extract the 3 files to the newly created empty folder.
  4. Download the Cumulate Update. Extract it to the newly created folder. Be sure to have only one .exe file in the folder.
  5. Find out the build number of the current cumulative update. You can find it in the kb article on msdn where you download the cumulative update file. Add the build version into the AutoSPInstaller_Config.xml:
    e.g. <BuildVersion>15.0.4535.1000</BuidVersion>
  6. (Optional) Open the SharePoint Management Shell as Administrator. If your farm account is not a local administrator than the script can't write into the registry. In this case you have to reboot manually.
  7. Start the script. Go to the installation directory and type C:\>./AutoSPCUInstaller.ps1
